Patano Studio Architecture won a competition to design a new factory and showroom for Watson Furniture. The challenge was to create a modern, international image for the company while acknowledging its Northwest origins. Utilizing a pre-engineered building system, the large metal clad box houses the production facility, with a tilt-up concrete wall wrapping around the structure until almost closing back in on itself. The wall then takes a new angle, leaving the plan cracked open and creating a transparent wedge. The wedge houses the main entry, display areas, cafeteria and administrative and design offices.
