North Idaho College Sports Complex

Chris Patano on August 8, 2012

Patano+Hafermann Architects presented the design for a new Sports Complex to the North Idaho College Board and Foundation last week. The presentation was the culmination of over two years of work with the community of Coeur d’Alene to develop the concepts for a community focused sports complex that would be the anchor of the NIC Athletics program. The 70,000 sf facility seats 5,500 people for basketball, 4,500 for tournament wrestling and 3,500 for tournament volleyball and other simultaneous sporting events. Located at the highly visible junction of Interstate 90 and Northwest Boulevard, the NIC Sports complex presents a strong presence for NIC and a new entrance for the city of Coeur d’Alene. Large translucent walls provide natural daylighting inside the facility and the heavy timber structure at the entrance connects the project to the history of the site as a former saw mill.
